How do I get an OpenAthens account?
Complete the OpenAthens registration form and you will then receive an email asking you to activate your account. Once you have clicked on the link you will be asked to create a password. This will then give you access to our electronic resources and is normally valid for 2 years.
What is OpenAthens and why do I need an account?
The library can give you access to a large number of electronic journals and databases both via its own subscriptions and via those of NHS England. OpenAthens is the key to access all of these electronic resources by entering a simple username and password.
Where can I use my OpenAthens account?
OpenAthens is not limited by location and so can be accessed from anywhere in the world
I already have a University OpenAthens account. Why do I need one from you?
Your University OpenAthens account can only provide access to the resources that it subscribes to. This may include the NHS core resources but will not include any that the Library subscribes to in its own name. To gain access to the full NHS England resources as well as those subscribed to by the Library you will require an OpenAthens account from us.
May I have a University OpenAthens account as well as one from you?
Yes. It is possible to have OpenAthens accounts from your University as well as from us.
I have just joined after previously working at another trust. I have an OpenAthens account from that trust. Why do I need to change it to yours?
Both Trusts OpenAthens accounts will provide you with access to the NHS England core resources. However it is likely that the two trusts will have made different choices as to the resources that they subscribe to in their own name. These will include different journals and e-books as well as individual choices about resources such as Up to date.
How do I move my OpenAthens account?
Go to the OpenAthens login page and login with your OpenAthens account. Click on change organisation and enter the details of the new organisation you are working for i.e. Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. Then click change. Your organisation has now been changed. If you have any problems with this please contact the library.
How do I find a journal?
All journals the library has access to are listed on the Journals A-Z Search. Please ensure that you are logged into your OpenAthens account and search for the journal. If a title is not listed and you would like an article from it please contact the library and ask if we can get a copy from another library.
My OpenAthens account is not working.
This could be due to a number of reasons. Have you entered the right username and password? If you have forgotten your password it can be reset by clicking the “forgotten your password link” when you try and log in. Not sure what your username is then contact the library.
The other possibility is that your account is either ineligible or has expired. Please check your email to see if you have received an email notifying you that your account is about to become ineligible or expire. If so click on the link in the email and follow the instructions or contact the library.
I'm confused. Can you help?
