Title: “Healthcare Databases Advanced Searching”

Description:

Learn how to find accurate and reliable information on Healthcare Databases such as CINAHL and MEDLINE.

We will discuss formulating a clinical question using search frameworks, which medical database to use for your search and how to input your search with the correct combinations (AND/OR) to receive the most useful results.

There will be plenty of practical time to practice searching with the library team so make sure to have a research question in mind.

For face to face sessions only: Laptops can be provided but feel free to bring your own smartphone, laptop or tablet. 

Pre-requisites for attendanceIf requesting practical session only please watch theory video in advance of session.

Duration: 1hr (30 mins theory, 30 mins practical.) If you wish to skip to practical please watch video in advance of session.

Format1 to 1 workshop. (Departmental teaching is also available upon request)

Delivery method: face to face or virtual (via MS Teams), Ad-hoc (must book)

Learn how to:

  • Choose which database to use
  • Access your chosen database using OpenAthens
  • Formulate a research question
  • Input your search to the platform
  • Appropriately use the combine operators (ie. AND, OR, NOT)
  • Apply limits (such as date or language)
  • Export your search, to share or to manage in a reference management tool.
